Sheffield Eagles are the current holders of the 1895 Cup

The RFL has announced that the semi-final draw for the 1895 Cup will take place next week.

Featherstone, Swinton, Widnes and York are the only four sides taking part in the competition by virtue of reaching the third round of this year’s Challenge Cup.

The competition, which normally features 16 teams from the Championship and League 1, was restructured for 2021 due to the unforeseen circumstances caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The draw will take place at 5pm on Wednesday 28 April at Ullswater Heights in the Lake District.

It will be streamed via the OuRLeague app and on The Sportsman website. AB Sundecks, primary sponsors of the competition, will also stream the draw on their Facebook page.

First introduced in 2019, the 1895 Cup is a knockout competition for sides outside of Super League. Sheffield Eagles became inaugural winners of the format when they defeated Widnes 36-18 at Wembley.

The RFL has also confirmed details of the draw for the quarter-finals of the Women’s Challenge Cup, which like the 1895 Cup will take place next Wednesday.

Ten teams from the Women’s Super League will take part as the competition begins this weekend.

Leeds Rhinos will be looking to defend their crown after triumphing 16-10 over local rivals Castleford at the University of Bolton Stadium.
