Former England international Danny Kirmond is facing a three-match suspension after being sent off in York’s 24-22 win over Sheffield in the Challenge Cup.

The 37-year-old forward was shown a red card for what was deemed a late hit on half-back Cory Aston in the first half of York’s win over fellow Championship side Sheffield in last weekend’s Challenge Cup fourth round tie.

As a result, Kirmond has been charged with a Grade D strike by the Rugby Football League’s match review panel.

The disciplinary panel have given Kirmond a three-match suspension and a £125 fine.

York can appeal the ban, with the deadline being on Tuesday.

Danny Kirmond potential ban

If York and Kirmond accept his three-match ban, he will still be available to play in their Championship game against Keighley on Good Friday.

His suspension would start the following week against Halifax, and he would also miss their upcoming fixtures against Newcastle Thunder and London Broncos.

Kirmond has made more than 350 career appearances for Featherstone, Huddersfield, Wakefield and York. He won a solitary cap for England in 2012.

Meanwhile, Keighley’s Dan Parker has received a one-match suspension for a Grade B dangerous contact in their 34-6 win over rivals Bradford in the Challenge Cup last week.

Like Kirmond, Parker would be available to play against York on Friday, but he would be unavailable for their match against Toulouse the following week.

The match review panel’s latest sanctions following the latest round of Challenge Cup and reserve matches:

  • Charlie Abraham – Wakefield Trinity Reserves – Grade B Dangerous Throw – £25 Fine
  • Finley Yates – Salford Red Devils Reserves – Grade B Disputes Decision – £25 Fine
  • Dan Parker – Keighley Cougars – Grade B Dangerous Contact – 1 Match Penalty Notice
  • Callum Hazzard – North Wales Crusaders – Grade A Disputes Decision – £40 Fine
  • Danny Kirmond – York Knights – Grade D Strikes – 3 Match Penalty Notice and £125 Fine
  • Frasers Maccauley – London Broncos Reserves – Grade B Trips – £25 Fine

The following player has received a caution:

  • Josh Wood – Barrow Raiders – Dangerous Throw
