Cronulla Sharks star, former Australia international Matt Moylan approached by Super League club

Matt Moylan is set to make his Leigh debut this week

One Super League club have approached Cronulla Sharks star and one-time Australia international Matt Moylan, according to reports in Australia.

Writing for The Daily Telegraph, NRL journalist  David Riccio has reported that Catalans Dragons are lining up the 32-year-old for 2024.

Moylan signed a new two-year extension with the Sharks midway through 2022, with his contract running through until 2024.

However, head coach Steve McNamara is said to be keen on the experienced playmaker, who has made 188 appearances in the NRL to date, scoring 37 tries.

The 2016 New South Wales State of Origin representative made his debut in 2013 with Penrith Panthers, and later joined Cronulla in 2018.

He has made 17 appearances in the current season Down Under, scoring twice – missing just one game as the club sit sixth on the NRL table.

The addition would be a major boost for the Perpignan-based outfit, who are set to lose some of their biggest names at the end of the Super League season.

Catalans Dragons set to lose a handful of players with club keen on Matt Moylan 

Former England captain and Catalans star Sam Tomkins is set to hang up the boots at the end of the current campaign, having made close to 250 Super League appearances to date across his career.

Veteran half-back Mitchell Pearce is yet to make a decision on his future, with the 34-year-old linked with a return to the NRL next season with former club Sydney Roosters.

 

Pearce initially signed a two-year deal with the Dragons, with an option for a third season.

Having been given the number six shirt ahead of the 2023 campaign, utility back Tyrone May could also leave the club at the end of the season.

Australian utility Adam Keighran will link up with Matt Peet’s Wigan for the 2024 season on a two-year deal, joined by young forward and Catalans team-mate Tiaki Chan on a three-year contract.

Michael McIlorum is expected to play on in 2024 for his 18th Super League season, according to reports in France. The veteran hooker has has made 111 appearances for Catalans to date following his move from Wigan in 2018.

Meanwhile, forward Mickael Goudemand will link up with Rohan Smith’s Leeds next year on a two-year deal and back-rower Matt Whitley is expected to end his five-year stint in France for a return to England, reportedly set to join St Helens.

Chris Satae is the only confirmed new signing for McNamara’s side in 2024, while the French outfit have been linked with Huddersfield Giants star man Theo Fages and Hull’s Andre Savelio.
