Fresh after upstaging Mark Gasnier‘s during his farewell match at Kograh, veteran St George centre Matt Cooper has extended his contract with the club for a further two years.

Cooper, who scored two tries in the 38-8 defeat of Cronulla on Monday night, has signed a deal which will see him remain with the club until the end of 2013 at least.

The 32-year-old New South Wales and Australia player has made 211 appearances for the Dragons since making his debut in 2000.

The news comes just a week after Cooper’s centre partner Mark Gasnier announced his retirement at the age of 29.

“I feel really good to have been able to extend my contract knowing now that I’ll be a Dragon for the rest of my career,” said Cooper,

“Being a one Club man has always been a dream of mine, I love the Club and the area and know that we will continue to be a strong club under the guidance of Steve Price from next year”.

Dragons Chief Executive Peter Doust said he was delighted to retain Cooper’s services.

“Matt has been a significant contributor to our Club both on and off the field for a number of years and he will continue to play a valuable leadership role under Steve Price moving forward next season.”
