Widnes’ new recruit Charlie Gubb said he wants to help Widnes win enough games in the Qualifiers to remain in Super League next year.
The 28-year-old joined the Vikings just before the transfer deadline last week from Canberra Raiders on a deal until the end of the season.
Gubb is in line to make his Widnes debut on Thursday after being named in Francis Cummins’ 19-man squad to face London broncos in the first game of the Qualifiers.
And the New Zealander wants to win games to help the Vikings secure top-flight status.
He said: “I came to win.
“I know we haven’t won in a while, but it’s my goal to win games. We want to win all of our games, so we can’t afford to lose to anyone around us. I know we have to put our best performance in every week.
“The boys have been really welcoming. The training has been really intense, and it’s been really good and to a high standard. There’s not many boys injured at the moment and there’s a lot of talent on the pitch.
“Even when I was waiting for my visa, I was excited to come over and play and see what it was all about. Not only that, but I want to put my best effort in and test myself against people over here.”
