Championship Preview: Swinton v Sheffield

Swinton Lions coach Steve McCormack still has doubts over Chaz I’Anson (broken thumb) as he searches for a first competitive win since June 24, 2012.

Swinton have lost eight and drawn one of their last nine league fixtures, including defeats against Workington Town and York City Knights at the start of this season.

But McCormack believes a change in fortune is just around the corner.

He said: “The more games we play together, the better we will get. It’s just disappointing we’ve started the season with two defeats, when maybe we could have had two wins from those games.”

Joe Hirst (broken hand) remains three weeks away from a return to action, while Dane McDonald is also ruled out for Sheffield Eagles.

But Eagles coach Mark Aston is looking to make changes to his line-up, despite a 13-6 win over Batley Bulldogs last week.

Scott Turner, Pat Smith and Matt Garside could all come into contention against Swinton.

Aston said: “We need to have a look at other people… and let someone who has been training out of their skin get in there and show where they are at.”
