Catalans 40-8 Warrington: Fouad Yaha becomes Catalans’ leading try scorer in victory

Catalans winger Fouad Yaha scored a try in the 40-8 victory over Warrington to become the club’s all-time leading try scorer.

His 88th try saw him overtake Vincent Duport to break records at Stade Brutus. Steve McNamara’s side ran in six tries to jump to second in the Super League table.

Toby King was a late pull out for the travelling Wolves. Ben Currie was named at centre as a replacement.  

England international Sam Tomkins made his return from injury. 23-year-old Arthur Mourgue was named in the halves for Catalans alongside veteran Mitchell Pearce.

Tomkins opened the scoring with his his boot on nine minutes. The full-back converted a penalty to give his side an early 2-0 lead. 

Warrington crossed for the first try of the evening through Connor Wrench on 12 minutes. The 20-year-old was playing on the wing in replacement of Josh Charnley. Peter Mata’utia converting from out-wide for a 6-2 score.

The Dragons hit back on 22 minutes. Tom Davies finished the try on his 100th Super League appearance thanks to great work from his centre in Tyrone May.

Tomkins restored his side’s lead just four minutes into the second half with another penalty conversion.

The Catalans full-back was having a return to remember, having prevented a try in the first half for Matty Ashton before chasing down Wrench in the second half.

Pearce was penalised for a high tackle on 50 minutes, allowing Mata’utia to level the scores through a penalty goal for 8-8. 

However, the former NRL half-back made up for his mistake with a try on 55 minutes. The 33-year-old scored his eighth try of the season for a 14-8 lead.

Jason Clark gave away a penalty in possession, in which Tomkins made no mistake for an eight-point lead.

There were four tries in the last 12 minutes for the hosts. Julian Bousquet was first to power his way over on 68 minutes before Wales international Gil Dudson scored his first try of the season.

Yaha claimed his title at the top of the leaderboard for Dragons on 77 minutes before Mourgue supported the winger to score for a 40-8 result.
