Casualty Ward: Leeds provide update on trio, Warrington to be without key men & Walker latest
Keep up to date with the latest injury news in Casualty Ward, this week including updates from Leeds Rhinos, Warrington’s latest injuries and concerns for Jack Walker.
Leeds provide update on injured trio
Leeds Rhinos have issued an update on injured trio Harry Newman, Bodene Thompson and Cameron Smith.
All three left the field during the club’s recent 28-20 victory over Hull KR last Friday. Both Thompson and Smith attended A&E and were discharged shortly after. Smith, 23, sustained a hand injury but scans have shown it is not a fracture. Thompson, 34, suffered a rib injury and was taken to hospital due to the pain. He was discharged with no further complications.
England World Cup hopeful Harry Newman is set to have scans this week on a suspected hamstring injury.
Warrington to be without three for Rhinos clash
Warrington boss Daryl Powell reckons he has lost the service of three players for the trip to Headingley Stadium this Friday.
“I think Stefan Ratchford will miss next week with a head knock,” Powell said. “Connor Wrench and Matty Nicholson are also expected to miss next week.”
During the same clash, Toulouse full-back Olly Ashall-Bott sustained a knock to his leg but returned to the field in the second half.
Feki dealt another cruel blow
Castleford head coach Lee Radford has confirmed that winger Sosaia Feki has almost certainly played his last game for the club.
Feki, 31, played his first game in 693 days when he came on from the bench in last week’s defeat to St Helens last weekend.
Jake Mamo continues to miss out due to the affects of a previous head knock. It’s his second head knock this year.
Jordan Turner is expected to return this week and has had the all clear from specialist. Cheyse Blair is also in contention to come back for the Tigers.
More concerns for Hull KR
It’s another heavy inclusion in our Casualty Ward for Hull KR. Interim head coach Danny McGuire joked that he and his coaching staff may have to come out of retirement to help his side field a team this week against St Helens.
Shaun Kenny-Dowall’s season looks to be over. The centre was forced from the field in the first half at Craven Park and McGuire confirmed a potential MCL injury.
The Robins also lost forward Greg Richards to injury. They did however welcome back Kane Linnett and Ryan Hall from injuries, while Mikey Lewis is nearing his return.
Huddersfield latest
Huddersfield utility Ashton Golding is three-to-four weeks away according to head coach Ian Watson. Sebastine Ikahihifo is back training with the team and is also not too far away from his return.
Ricky Leutele is set to join back in with team next week. He was running on the waters for their clash against Salford on Saturday. Josh Jones missed the defeat with a groin injury.
Jack Walker injury
Jack Walker came off during Hull’s 60-6 defeat at home to St Helens. The full-back felt a crack in his ankle, with head coach Brett Hodgson admitting after the game that it didn’t look good. Darnell McIntosh also suffered a knock to his ankle.
St Helens youngster Jack Welsby missed the clash. However, coach Kristian Woolf admitted that he decided to take him out of the firing line and give him a well-earned rest.
Sione Mata’utia also sustained a knock and will be monitored during the week.
James Batchelor on crutches
James Batchelor left Wakefield’s win over Wigan on crutches. The club took a huge step towards their Super League survival with a 30-12 victory over the Warriors at the Be Well Stadium.
