Sam Burgess is facing several weeks on the sideline after limping off the field during South Sydney‘s 17-16 victory over Wests Tigers.

Burgess was left in agony after his leg was trapped in a tackle during the first half of the match at Allianz Stadium.

Initial reports suggested the former Bradford player had suffered a medial ligament strain in his knee, which could see him out for up to a month.

Meanwhile the Tigers’ Gareth Ellis suffered a suspected fractured foot and is looking at a similar time on the sidelines.

The game itself was a thriller, with the Rabbitohs sneaking over a golden point field goal from Greg Inglis after fighting their way back from 16-4 down.
