I have been in Australia for nearly five years and have covered the NRL for much longer than that, first writing about the competition from my flat in Berlin around 2017. I was based in Germany for seven years, then Amsterdam for two before moving Down Under in 2021.
In Europe, I was a copywriter with several major fashion brands, a German-English translator and a journalist across politics and sport, particularly soccer and boxing.
I was raised in Rochdale and earned my first wage in the game as a ballboy at Rochdale Hornets as a teenager.
Since then, I’ve done just about anything to be involved: reffing junior levels, translating for French tours, selling tickets in the summer at RFL HQ and, whenever someone would let me, writing about the game.
My on-field career didn’t go much further than Royton Tigers and Amsterdam Cobras, but I still run around at touch footy believing I’m Rochdale’s answer to Darren Lockyer.
These days, you’ll most likely find me on the hill at my adopted clubs, the Manly Sea Eagles and Newtown Jets – or when there’s no footy to be found, watching my beloved Celtic FC or the England cricket team.
