Australian to referee Kangaroos’ clash with England

Australian Gerard Sutton has been appointed as referee for the Four Nations match between the Kangaroos and England in Melbourne on Sunday.

The Four Nations appointments committee has not chosen to explain why it has decided to ditch the neutral referees which were used in the first round of fixtures.

Henry Perenara of New Zealand will also referee the Kiwis’ clash with Samoa in Whangarei.

The decision to use a home referee has several unfortunate precedents, with mamy England supporters remembering the role played by Tony Archer in defeats to the Australians in 2008 and 2010.
