Andrew Henderson says he was “honoured” to receive a phone call from league legend Ellery Hanley asking him to join the Combined Nations All Stars coaching staff.

Hanley has been named head coach of the Combined Nations for the June 18 fixture against England.

Former Scotland captain Henderson has been named assistant coach as he was last year under Australian Tim Sheens.

“To get the opportunity to work with the distinguished Ellery Hanley is something I’m very much looking forward to,” he told Love Rugby League.

“It was quite an honour to receive a phone call from Ellery asking me to support him and the team again.”

Beating England

Andrew Henderson revealed he has already met with the three-time Man Of Steel, one of the most decorated and iconic players in the sport’s history.

The All Stars will look to topple Shaun Wane’s side again after last season’s famous scalp.

Further details about the fixture are expected to be announced later today.

He added: “I have met with Ellery and enjoyed sharing some of our principles and philosophies along with discussing the exceptional talent that we will have at our disposal this year.

“Being part of the All Stars last year was a unique and special opportunity. To win against a very good England side was certainly a career highlight.

“It was a memorable moment that I hope those who make up the 2022 team will get to experience and cherish.

“I am sure some of the guys who were involved last year will be there again but we could see some new faces added.

“It’s down to the players now who want to be involved in this team to be performing well for their clubs, but I’m sure there will be some tough decisions to make as we decide on the final team.”
