Salford assistant coach Kurt Haggerty has revealed the Red Devils will be without versatile forward Danny Addy for up to six weeks with a hamstring injury.

Scotland international Addy picked up a hamstring injury in last Thursday’s 14-6 win over Castleford at the AJ Bell Stadium.

The 32-year-old featured from the bench but didn’t return to the action in the second half.

“He’s not good,” Haggerty told Love Rugby League. “I think with Danny we are looking around six weeks.

“It is just setback after setback with Dan, so we’re all sticking by Dan and helping him get through these tough moments.”

Addy was forced to miss Scotland’s World Cup campaign last year after suffering a season-ending injury last July.

His latest setback is a blow to the Red Devils and Danny Addy, who has made four appearances in Super League so far this year.

Meanwhile, experienced forwards Andrew Dixon and Ben Hellewell played for Salford’s reserves last week.

“Dicko just needed a little bit more game time with the reserves so we got him 80 minutes in,” Haggerty said.

“Benny Hellewell is not far off, he’ll be a push for this week (against Catalans). He’s come through really well after the reserves game too.”

Kurt Haggerty content with Salford’s start to the season

The Red Devils are currently fifth in the Super League table, having won five from their first nine games of the season.

“We’d have liked to have been a little bit higher in the league than what we are,” Haggerty said.

“Overall, when you look at the injuries we’ve had and our squad size, I wouldn’t say we’re happy but we could be in a far worse position given the adversity that we’ve faced early on so I’m pretty content.”

Next up for Salford is Catalans at home on Sunday, which is followed by a week off due to the international break.

“In regards to the squad, I’d probably say we’re ready for a rest because we’ve got such a small squad,” Haggerty said of the international break.

“We’re not quite there in regards to getting bodies back so I think an extra week off will help us.

“We’re in a good place, we’re competing every week. I just think we’re in a point where we’ll give it a good push for Catalans this week and then we’re ready for a bit of a break.”

Salford take on Catalans at the AJ Bell Stadium on Sunday afternoon, 2:15pm kick-off.
