Promotion hunting York have signed veteran Hull forward Danny Washbrook for 2020.

Washbrook, 33, has made 337 appearances at the top level for Wakefield and Hull, who he played for in two spells after making his debut in 2005.

He said: “I’m looking forward to the challenge of helping the club keep progressing the way they have under James’ leadership.

“Having spoken to a number of players current and past they spoke highly about all aspects of the club and that excited me.”

Washbrook played in the 2006 Super League Grand Final and lifted the Challenge Cup on two occasions with the Airlie Birds.

York coach James Ford said: “I’m very pleased to bring a player with such professionalism to the club. Danny has a wealth of experience that will help improve our culture further and directly impact on the younger players in the squad.

“He’s a very intelligent rugby player who will benefit all aspects of our performance. I’m looking forward to working with Danny.”

York host Featherstone in the Championship play-offs on Saturday, with the winner going on to face either Toronto or Toulouse for a place in the Grand Final.
