Workington sign winger from amateur ranks

Workington have signed winger Jonathan Walsh from amateur side Barrow Island.

The former Barrow Island amateur impressed Leon Pryce while on trial with Town in pre-season.

Walsh has played for Workington in their pre-season friendlies against Whitehaven and Huddersfield Giants.

On joining Town, Walsh said: “When I played in the derby game last week, it was a good feeling to listen to the crowd chanting and the team spirit we have flying around at the moment is good.

“I thought I had a steady away game and was happy to be a part of it and it paid off for me by getting asked if I wanted a contract with Workington Town which I didn’t hesitate about taking.

“I am to be consistent and run hard for the boys this year and be a reliable winger to help towards possible promotion.

“The lads are all spot on and there is plenty of banter flying around which makes it a lot more comfortable for us trialists.”
