Will Pryce of Huddersfield walks off the field after been shown a red card

Huddersfield coach Ian Watson has backed ‘devastated’ youngster Will Pryce to learn lessons from his first red card in Super League.

The 19-year-old was shown a red card for a dangerous tackle in the second half of his side’s 14-6 defeat at Hull on Sunday afternoon.

Pryce will discover his fate when the Rugby Football League’s match review panel looks at the incident on Monday.

Watson said: “It’s a big lesson for him to learn. The big thing is that he’s devastated in the changing room.

“He knows he’s messed up. What he’s got to do now is lick his wounds, see what consequences come from those actions and learn from them.

“He’s a good enough kid to learn and understand. You go through some bits of adversity as you go through your career and this is one that Will is going to have to face.”

Missed opportunity for Huddersfield

The Giants missed the chance to go level with Super League leaders St Helens after their shock defeat in Toulouse on Saturday.

Watson added: “It would have been a great way to get a result and to sit up there in the top four at the top end of the table and open a little bit of space on the teams below.

“We’re still learning as a team. We’re not a million miles away. We are a decent team. We’re showing the right things in terms of our effort areas.

“We worked really hard for each other and we were passive in the first half. We probably paid too much respect to Hull’s physicality. They rolled us a few times in the first half.

“When we did get attacking positions, our attacking play wasn’t good enough.

“In the second half we made some breaks and dented the line. Joe (Greenwood) was convinced 100 per cent that he scored.”

Huddersfield will play their first game in the Challenge Cup next week when they travel to Barrow.
