Wilkin: We were terrible

St Helens skipper Jon Wilkin says his team were absolutely terrible against Leeds and gifted the Rhinos the win.

Saints went behind 16-0 early, fought back to lead 18-16 but then fell away in the second half.

Wilkin didn’t mince his words after the match.

“I thought we were soft,” he told Sky.

“We gave Leeds a leg up. Leeds are struggling, they’re busted, they’ve really not got it going this year at all and they’re weren’t great tonight. We gave them a leg up tonight, we were terrible.

“We were absolutely terrible. We took some stupid options. We started so poorly and then expended a lot of energy trying to get back into the game.

“Both sides weren’t great. Credit to Leeds for coming back and grinding a result out in what was an ugly sort of game really.”

Wilkin was not happy with how his side performed.

“We should have been way more clincial with the ball, and thats disappointing,” he said.

“I don’t think Leeds played outstanding, I don’t think they played really well tonight but they got the result so all credit to them for that.”
