Wigan winger Charnley set for six-week lay-off

Wigan are set to be without England winger Josh Charnley for six weeks, after he suffered an ankle injury in Friday’s win over Hull FC.

Scans on the injury have revealed that the three-quarter has sustained a high ankle strain, and he will have to wear a protective ankle boot for the next four weeks.

He will not be able to train during that time, though he is fortunate in that the injury will not require surgery.

Wigan coach Shaun Wane is sanguine about the situation, however, and confident that the club have enough cover to cope.

“It’s unfortunate but it gives Dom Manfredi a chance to show what he can do and I’m chilled about it,” he said.

“Dom can do things which Josh can’t. I’m a big fan of his.”
