Widnes have signed former Wigan youngster Thomas Coyle from Oldham.

Coyle, 21, starred for Oldham in their Championship 1 Grand Final defeat to Keighley on Sunday and will move to the Stobart Stadium for the 2010 season.

The half-back or hooker is a product of the Wigan St Pat’s amateur club and made his Super League debut for Wigan before spending time on loan at Halifax.

Vikings’ Sporting Director Terry O’Connor said, “Thomas is a good player who has had a really good season with Oldham. We wanted to wait until his commitments there were finished before announcing his signing.”

Coyle’s brother James, now at Barrow, played for the Vikings in 2006.

Meanwhile, Widnes have released young forward Josh Simm from his contract by mutual consent.
