Widnes Vikings have completed the signing of Castleford Tigers centre James Ford on a two-year contract.

Ford, 26, made nine appearances first-team appearances after joining the Tigers from Sheffield Eagles at the start of 2009.

Before his spell at Sheffield, Ford spent two years with Featherstone Rovers.

“I had a choice of several Championship clubs but Widnes is far and away the best in the league,” he said.

“I’ve watched them several times this season and am surprised they haven’t actually won the league with their current squad.

“As an outsider looking in they are a Super League team in all but name.

“They attract crowds of three to four thousand and are well thought of throughout the sport, and I’m really looking forward to joining them.”
