Ben Westwood wants his Warrington teammates to continue their pre-season intensity into the 2016 season.

Warrington are currently undergoing a warm-weather training camp in Tenerife, with the new Super League season just weeks away.

The Wolves will be wanting to improve upon their 6th place finish in 2015, and Westwood believes that the squad’s pre-season gives them reason to be optimistic.

“It’s been pretty intense over the last few days, the weather is good and I’d rather be training here than in the rain,” he told Warrington’s official website.

“I say it every year but the intensity the boys have brought this year is a step up again. We’re looking pretty sharp and we’re looking to put some work in and do as much as we can in this warm weather and take the advantages of it.”

The Wolves have a few fresh faces in the squad in what has been a succesful off-season in terms of recruitment, with the likes of Tom Lineham, Joe Westerman and Kurt Gidley joining the squad.

All of this has made the 34-year old look forward to the upcoming season even more, and points to the strength in depth the Warrington squad now has.

“There is quite a few new faces, and a few characters now in the squad, and we have a good laugh together,” he said.

“We have some good youngsters coming through as well, some of them with a couple of years under their belt and there’s a real competition for places now. Everyone is training well and we’re looking forward to the start of the year.”

Warrington will start their 2016 Super League season away at Headingley against the Champions, Leeds, and Westwood has admitted that the squad is more than ready to come up against the Rhinos.

“We’re looking forward to it, why not start off with the best?” he said.

“We’ve got a couple of warm up games before then, but it soon comes around again and I’m looking forward to February for it to all start again.”
