England international Josh Hodgson scored his first try for his new club Parramatta Eels in a 34-30 defeat to Manly Sea Eagles.

The Hull-born hooker linked up with the Eels ahead of this season on a two-year deal following an eight-year spell with Canberra Raiders.

Hodgson has played in all three of Parramatta’s games so far, with his first try coming in a 34-30 defeat to Manly on Thursday.

The Eels are still seeking their first win of the season after three rounds, but they came so close as they went down to defeat at league leaders Manly.

Sea Eagles duo Tom Trbojevic and Haumole Olakau’atu both bagged braces to help the home side take the spoils and maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

The Eels were 14-10 to the good at half-time thanks to first half tries from Clint Gutherson and Matt Doorey.

But Manly fought back in the second half to take the lead. The Eels sparked a late comeback through tries from Hodgson and Maika Sivo (2), but it wasn’t enough as Manly held on for a 34-30 victory.

Anthony Seibold’s side now site top of the NRL ladder, having won their first three games of the season.
