Warrington Wolves players celebrate a try at Magic Weekend

Warrington Wolves could welcome back five players this weekend, whilst Daryl Powell has confirmed a minor injury to England prop James Harrison.

Powell says George Williams, Matty Nicholson, Matty Ashton, Josh Thewlis and Connor Wrench ‘should all be available’ for Sunday’s trip to Wakefield Trinity.

“They should all be available hopefully,” Powell said when asked about the aforementioned five players ahead of Sunday’s game against bottom club Wakefield.

“Obviously we’ve got a couple of training sessions (to go) but the couple of weeks (off) has given us a bit of time and we potentially lose Jimmy Harrison for a couple of weeks with a finger injury – but we are looking a fair bit stronger.

“Jimmy dislocated his finger a fair while back and it just keeps coming out so he’s had to have a little bit done with that.

“He’s seeing a specialist this week but I’m hoping he’s going to be okay in a couple of weeks. He’ll miss the next two games, that’s what we are thinking at the moment.”

Warrington Wolves boss Daryl Powell: Break came at a good time for us

The Wire didn’t have a game last week due to the Challenge Cup semi-finals taking place, which allowed Powell to give his players some time to switch off and have a short break away from rugby.

Powell said: “We’ve had a tough period and we’re out of the Challenge Cup so that gives us this break that you don’t really want, but probably with where we’ve been at, it came at a good time for us and it’s freshened the boys up.

“We gave them pretty much the week off if they weren’t injured so the boys have had a bit of time to get their heads out of it, which sometimes is important I think for all of us when you are under pressure constantly.

“We’ve trained today, I thought we were outstanding today, looked really sharp and it was a really intense session so I was really pleased with that and what I’ve seen.

“They always say about a book, you don’t really remember whats in the middle, it’s got a good start and a good end and we need to have a good end, that’s what it’s all about.

“We’ve got a good opportunity now to crack on and get after it, and from what I’ve seen today the boys are ready to go, so I’m pretty enthused with what I’ve seen in this morning’s practice.”
