Huddersfield Giants centre Joe Wardle has signed a contract extension that will see him remain at the club until at the end of the 2014 Super League season.

The 19 year old who signed in the off season has made ten first team appearances so far this year and was delighted to sign a new deal:

“I’m over the moon to be signing a new deal with the club and I’m very grateful to Huddersfield for giving me the opportunity.  I feel my performances have been good this year and I’m just taking it game by game and going out there and showing what I can do. Playing alongside the likes of Kevin Brown, Grixy (Scott Grix) and Robbo (Luke Robinson) make it ten times easier for you when you’re coming into the team so really I’ve got a lot of them to thank for.

“From the first day I came, I’ve just learned so much. The coaching staff teach you different things about the game and I’ve come on leaps and bounds since Nathan has worked on my game with me. The more experienced players like Gilly (Lee Gilmour) have also spent a fair amount of time with me and helped me to develop.”

Giants Head Coach Nathan Brown has been impressed with Wardle:

“Joe forced his way into the first team through his good form. Since he came to the club in the off season he has worked hard and he looks a bright player not only for now but also for the future.

“He put in a good pre-season and that has transferred to the field forcing his way into the team off the back of working hard on his game both at training and through his own off field life, doing the things that are required.

“He is definitely an aggressive player in defence and from an attacking point of view he is a good line runner.”
