Wane dismisses Smith rumour

Wigan coach Shaun Wane has rubbished speculation that Matty Smith is set to leave the club to make way for Thomas Leuluai.

The Kiwi can play in the halves and at hooker. Smith has been linked with a move to St Helens.

But Wane has dismissed those rumours and believes competition for places is healthy.

 “I’m happy with Matty, George, Sam, Jake and Micky – and the best will play,” he told Wigan Today.

“We are a club where – if you’re a player who doesn’t like competition – we’re not for you.

“I know there’s talk among fans and in the media, but the players all understand it and they like it.

“I want everyone to be under pressure – that’s what brings the best out of them.”
