A late try from Max Jowitt has gifted Wakefield a four-point victory over local rivals Featherstone.

Rovers’ John Davies got the first try match, grounding the ball from close range.

Jordan Tansey responded for the Wildcats and converted his own try to make it 6-4.

But Featherstone hit the lead again when Ian Hardman sneaked over from dummy half.

Jack Ormondroyd touched down next to put Rovers 14-6 in front. Debutant Misi Taulapapa then scored to make it 18-6.

Reece Lyne scored a great try to put Wakefield back in it 18-10 right near half-time.

In the second half Ashley Gibson got over the line after a Craig Hall kick. The conversion took the score to 18-16 with Featherstone still just in front.

The Wildcats then broke ahead with five minutes left on the clock, after lovely footwork from Hall set up Jowitt.

Jordan Tansey converted to give Wakefield the 22-18 friendly victory.
