Wakefield have announced that winger Lee Kershaw has signed a new two-year deal with the club.

Kershaw, 22, made 19 appearances for Trinity in the 2021 season, before picking up an ACL injury in the club’s penultimate game of the regular season.

He made his debut for the club in 2019, when he earned man of the match and crossed for a try against Leeds.

Kershaw looking forward to future after securing new deal

“I would like to say a huge thank you to the club for showing their faith in me with this deal,” said Lee Kershaw.

“Obviously, it wasn’t a great end to the season for me picking up the injury, but I feel like I have shown what I can do and with a two-year extension, I’ve got plenty of time to get back fully fit and prove myself again.

“I have plenty of hard work ahead of me in my road to recovery; but it’s a challenge I’m going full throttle at.

“I love playing for this club and I’m already looking forward to pulling that jersey on again.”

Wakefield head coach Willie Poching added: “It’s fantastic news that we are able to secure Lee’s signature.

“He’s another of our homegrown talents and he showed this year that he has some great football ahead of him.

“His progression through his performances in 2021 put him in the company of some of our most consistent performers. We look forward to Lee recovering from his injury and coming back stronger, faster and even better for us.”

The club has recently announced the departures of Josh Wood, Alex Walker, Oliver Greensmith and Chris Green, with the latter recently confirmed to be reuniting with Chris Chester at Leigh in the 2022 Championship season.

Greensmith has joined Dewsbury, while Wood has signed with Barrow.

Earlier in August, Trinity confirmed the signings of Tom Lineham and Liam Wood for the 2022 campaign.
