Wakefield Trinity have announced the signing of Wigan hooker Tom Forber on an initial two-week loan deal.

The 19-year-old arrives adding depth to the squad, with Liam Hood set for a short spell on the sidelines after failing his head injury assessment in the defeat to Salford.

Forber was one of seven players to make his Super League debut against Hull KR in August 2022.

The youngster also impressed for the Warriors against Wakefield in the Reserves Grand Final. Forber has also featured on loan at Oldham, Newcastle and Whitehaven.

He will train with the squad tomorrow and be in contention for Friday’s game against Hull KR at the Be Well Support Stadium.

Tom Forber on Wakefield move

Forber said: “I’m really looking forward to meeting all the boys at training tomorrow and ripping in.

“It’s a step up for me from playing in reserves and being out on loan in the Championship. So I’m keen to get stuck in and do what I can for the team.

“I had a taste of Super League last season and that’s made me hungry for more opportunities, so to come here and get some game time is something I’m really excited about.”

Trinity head coach, Mark Applegarth, added: “With Liam Hood missing this weekend through concussion, it was important we got some depth in that position.

“Tom is joining us on a short-term loan and will be linking up with the squad at training tomorrow ahead of Friday’s game with Hull KR.

“I was really impressed by Tom when he played in the Reserves Grand Final last year and when he made his Super League debut. I’m looking forward to welcoming him to the club and delighted he’s on board.”

Wigan’s transition coach John Duffy commented: “Tom’s first loan experience at Whitehaven earlier in the season served him really well.

“This is a further opportunity for him to now make the step-up to play in Super League on a weekly basis which will benefit Tom in his first season as a full-time professional.”
