Wakefield release Tronc

Wakefield have released their Australian prop forward Shane Tronc with immediate effect.

Tronc joined the Wildcats from Australian club North Queensland Cowboys last winter but his wife has been unable to settle in West Yorkshire.  He asked to be released from what remained of his two-year contract with the Engage Super League club.

Diane Maskill, the Wildcats’ Executive Director, said: “We’re disappointed to be losing a quality player like Shane but we have a duty of care to the people who work for the club and have reluctantly agreed for Shane to return home with his family.

“It’s a very sad situation, we understand Shane’s need to see his family settled, but we also need a player to be an integral part of the squad.”

As part of Tronc’s severance agreement with the Wildcats he will not be able to sign for any other English or French clubs until November 2012, which is when his contract with Wakefield would have expired had he remained with the club.

Tronc has played in all the Wildcats’ eleven Engage Super League games so far this season and scored one try.

The Wildcats team management are currently seeking a replacement for Tronc for their first-team squad.
