Wakefield moved off the bottom of the Super League table by beating their rivals Castleford for the first time in 18 attempts.

Heading into the match Wakefield had not won one of their previous 17 meetings with neighbours Castleford.

But a big performance from Trinity saw them clinch an emphatic 32-6 win, which saw them go just above Toulouse in the Super League table by two points. Toulouse lost 30-6 to Hull in the same night.

Wakefield broke the deadlock in the 16th minute through Liam Hood, who scooted from dummy half.

Lewis Murphy extended Trinity’s lead midway through the first half when he collected a chip from Jacob Miller to score.

Castleford winger Bureta Faraimo thought he had scored in the 36th minute but it was ruled out by the video referee due to his foot being in touch.

Trinity went into the break 18-0 ahead after Matty Ashurst burst onto a flat ball from Miller.

Murphy scored his second for Wakefield shortly after the second half restart. He raced down the wing to go past Castleford full-back Jake Mamo to score.

Wakefield put the game out of reach for their rivals on the hour mark when big bopper David Fifita charged his way over the line. Mason Lino’s conversion put his side 30-0 ahead with 20 minutes left.

Danny Richardson pulled one back for the Tigers but it was too late to spark a comeback.

Lino added a penalty goal late on to wrap up a huge two points for Wakefield.
