Vikings need to focus

Jon Clarke has called for 80 minutes of maximum effort in this weekend’s game against Catalans Dragons.

Widnes have not played since the defeat to Castleford two weeks ago and a drastic improvement from that performance will be needed against high-flying Catalans.

Hooker Clarke is aware of this and told runcornandwidnesweeklynews.co.uk: “Only competing for 60 minutes isn’t going to get us anywhere.

“It’s vital for not just us as players, but for the club and the Widnes supporters to see that we are progressing every week.”

Earlier in the season Widnes were thrashed by the Dragons 76-6 and although Catalans are one of the most creative teams in the league a similar result this weekend will be beyond unacceptable.

“It’s up to us to ensure that our fans are going home happy this time around. A good, solid performance against one of the top sides in the competition will go someway to helping with that.”
