Tweets of the Week (June 28 2013)

Rugby league has been at the top of the sporting agenda this week, with a titanic Super League clash and a typically gruelling State of Origin Game II.

Monday saw in-form Wigan travel to rivals Warrington in Super League, and after a pulsating 80 minutes it was the Wolves who claimed an important victory.

Fooballer Joey Barton, a regular Tweeter and big rugby league fan, paid tribute to the match:

@Joey7Barton What an advert for Super League this is. Best sport to watch on telly bar none…

The week’s Twitter round-up begins the day before, with Sam Burgess‘ comments after playing alongside yet another one of his brothers in South Sydney‘s win over Parramatta:

@SamBurgess8 Awesome playing top flight with @Thomas_Burgess for the first time today and getting the win. Special mention to @peats05 on his 50th game 2!

The rugby league world then focused its full attention on Wednesday’s second match of the 2013 State of Origin series. Queensland’s 26-6 win got everyone talking, especially because of the quadruple sin-binning.

Leeds’ Australian forward Brett Delaney said:

@brettdelaney15 It’s Origin let them fight, the games turning into a joke too many rules….

While his so-called ‘Bash Brother’ Ryan Bailey was getting a taste for the action:

@Hayemaker16 Yorkshire v Lancashire – bring back the biff

On Thursday, wounded New South Welshman Andrew Fifita was already looking forward to Origin Game III:

@andrewfifita Thanks everybody for tweets. Loved every minute of origin. Unlucky for our loss but theres game 3 down home. #cantwait #nswbrothers #believe

Finally, away from Origin but still in Australia, the final Tweet of the Week is from Melbourne Storm and England playmaker Gareth Widdop.

He recently suffered a horrific hip injury that has ruled him out of the World Cup, and he took to Twitter to thank the countless well-wishers:

‏@garethwiddop Find out more about the hip next week guys thanks for asking
