Trust fund to be set up for Bobby and Phoebe Jones

Lizzie Jones, the widow of Danny, has requested that all the cash raised for the late Keighley Cougars and Wales player’s family be placed into a special trust fund.

This is so that the couple’s twin children, Phoebe and Bobby, just five months old, can have a safe future, using the legacy.

“We are totally overwhelmed by ordinary people’s generosity in supporting us,” said Lizzie.

“These are the most difficult times and our family find great comfort from our wider Rugby League family.

“Danny loved playing rugby league. Keighley Cougars have been fantastic and we are grateful for the rugby league support which we have received from around the world.  Thank you all very much.”

The funeral of Danny Jones will take place at St Mary’s Church, Gibbet Street, Halifax, HX1 5DH on Friday May 22 at 12 noon.  The wake will follow at Brighouse Rangers ARLFC, Russell Way, Brighouse, Halifax, HD6 4LX.

This will be a celebration of Danny’s life.

Danny died of a rare heart condition whilst playing for Keighley Cougars in their Championship 1 game at London Skolars on Sunday May 3.

“We want people to come in their rugby jerseys and wear bright colours to remember his wonderful fun personality,” Lizzie Jones added.

The Just Giving account set up by the RFL Benevolent Fund on behalf of Danny’s family has already raised over £113,000.
