Tongue to make Raiders return

Alan Tongue will mark his return from injury on Saturday when he captains Canberra in their trial match against Canterbury.

The 30-year-old has been declared fit, after overcoming the rib injury which caused him to miss the tail end of last season.

Meanwhile, new signing Matt Orford will have to wait another week to make his debut after failing a fitness test.

Joel Thompson also misses out.

The match will be played in Tamworth, Tongue’s home town, and the veteran forward can’t wait to soak up the atmosphere.

“It’s a huge thrill to be able to lead the team at Tamworth and all my family and friends will be at the game so it’s exciting,” Tongue said.

Tom Learoyd-Lahrs also has plenty of friends and family in Tamworth so I won’t be the only one from the area.”
