Tomkins to miss London game

Wigan full-back Sam Tomkins is unlikely to return to action against London Broncos this weekend.

He sat out the defeat at Huddersfield on Saturday with a shoulder injury, sustained in the 17-17 draw against Warrington in round two.

There was further woe for coach Shaun Wane when Anthony Gelling, who had come in to the side on the wing with Josh Charnley shifting to full-back, was forced off injured.

Wane told the club’s official website: “He (Sam) got a knock on his shoulder from the Warrington game and will probably be out next week as well. It’s one of those things and we had to make a change putting Josh Charnley there and it obviously affected us moving Anthony Gelling off as well as we had to swap a few things around on top of the injuries we’ve already got so all in all it was a decent performance.

“Blake (Green) has had tonsilitis and I saw his energy dip a bit so needed to make the change with Sam (Powell). Anthony Gelling has gone, he’s done his medial ligaments so will be out for 6 weeks.”
