Tigers retain Jones

Stuart Jones has signed a new two-year-deal with Castleford Tigers, extending his stay with the club until the end of the 2011 season.

The former Huddersfield forward has played in eleven of the Tigers Super League games this season, and has proved to be an elusive capture.

Jones, who has had stints at Wigan and St Helens in his career, joined the club at the beginning of this season, but his performances have convinced coach Terry Matterson that he was worthy of a new deal.

Matterson said: “Stu’ has been really good for us this year and has been very consistent.

“He is a tireless worker and his contribution is appreciated by all the players. He is a model professional, has a great work ethic and gives his all week to week both on and off the field. We are really pleased he is staying with us as we start to build for next year.”

Jones, 27, meanwhile, believes the club has potential to improve over the course of the remaining season and into next year.

“I’m really enjoying my first season at the Tigers and even though there have been a number of new faces in the squad we have really come together well as a unit,” said Jones.

“I joined the Club because I could see the potential and I believe we can only get better. The new contract means I can now focus on the games ahead and do all I can to make sure we finish in the top eight and have a crack at the play offs.”
