St Helens have recalled outside-back Josh Simm from his loan spell at Hull FC.

More injuries have forced head coach Kristian Woolf to bring his player back from the MKM Stadium. The 21-year-old initially made the move at the start of July, with the intention of remaining with the club for the rest of the season.

However, a further injury to Daniel Hill sustained in the win over Castleford will see Simm return to the Totally Wicked Stadium effective immediately.

Simm made a memorable debut for Hull, scoring a try on his first appearance during the Magic Weekend derby against Hull KR at Newcastle’s St James’ Park.

He made five appearances in his loan spell. The youngster also scored in the club’s 30-6 victory over Toulouse last week.

Hull FC added in a statement: “The club would like to thank Josh Simm for his efforts in Black & White. We wish him the very best for the remainder of the season and beyond.”

Injuries at St Helens

Utility back Hill was forced off the field for St Helens during yesterday’s victory over Castleford with a shoulder issue. The side also lost Regan Grace last week with a season-ending injury.

Grace, 25, suffered a ruptured Achilles in the defeat to Salford that has seen his St Helens stint cut short. The Wales international will join French rugby union side Racing 92 upon the expiry of his contract this season.

Sam Royle was also called back from Hull KR last week, although did not feature against the Tigers. Will Hopoate and Mark Percival have also both been sidelined through injuries in recent weeks.

St Helens face Hull this Sunday. Sione Mata’utia will return to the squad after serving his three match suspension.
