St George star Josh Dugan cleared for World Club Challenge

Josh Dugan has been given the all-clear to travel with the St George-Illawarra Dragons squad, after suffering a knee injury.

The full-back limped out of the Charity Shield game in Australia at the weekend, but scans showed that the injury was not as serious as feared.

As it is only a minor sprain, Dugan joins England stand-off Gareth Widdop and Kiwi halfback Benji Marshall in the 20-man squad.

English forward Mike Cooper is staying in Australia, however, to remain close to his pregnant partner.

“Our squad is made up of those players who have stood out to me in pre-season training as well as the matches that we have had at the NRL Auckland Nines, against the Mackay Cutters and involved in the recent Charity Shield,” said St George-Illawarra coach Paul McGregor.

“This overseas fixture presents a great opportunity for our group, both on and off the field, and everyone is really looking forward to the match and experience.

“We are very proud to have been invited by the UK Super League to compete in the inaugural World Club Series. Warrington are a fantastic club.

“They have a great coach and squad who are traditionally a top-four team in their competition so it will be a great challenge for our squad.”
