South Wales Scorpions will, unexpectedly, be playing a friendly match this Sunday away against Wigan Warriors under 20s.

The game will be played at the Co-operative Community Stadium in Orrell, Wigan, 2pm kick off.

The Wigan second string were scheduled to play Huddersfield Giants in a Valvoline Cup game but the Giants have requested the game was postponed as they are unable to raise a team.

So Wigan approached the Scorpions yesterday afternoon (Thursday) to see if they were able to play a friendly, with the Scorpions having no fixture this weekend, and the Welsh side were happy to accept.

Scorpions’ coach Dave Clark said: “This is a great opportunity for us to have a full-blown game against a good side. Wigan under 20s will be fantastic opponents for us. We have played them already this season in our only pre-season trial game and we showed a lot of promise and were very competitive. Hopefully this encounter will keep our adrenalin going when we may have got rusty with a week off.”

Wigan under 20s coach John Winder said: “We are delighted to have been able to arrange the game against the Scorpions at such short notice. The fixture will provide a great workout for both sides in what otherwise would have been a blank weekend for both teams.”
