South Sydney Rabbitohs have signed centre Latrell Mitchell from rivals Sydney Roosters.

The 22-year-old has linked up with the Rabbitohs on a one-year deal, with an option on his services in the club’s favour for 2021.

Mitchell scored 65 tries and kicked 209 goals in 97 games for the Roosters. He has earned four caps for Australia and has played four games for New South Wales.

Rabbitohs general manager of football, Shane Richardson, said: “He has the ability to be one of the best players in the world and from our discussions with him, he understands that it’s going to take a lot of hard work and effort for him to be at his best consistently and to reach his full potential.

“He will get that opportunity at the Rabbitohs, working with some wonderful mentors here in Wayne (Bennett), Jason (Demetriou), Ben (Hornby), Greg (Inglis), John (Sutton) and Sam (Burgess), and we’re really looking forward to seeing Latrell at his peak wearing the famous cardinal and myrtle jersey that so many greats of the game have worn before him.

“Things in the player market changed recently which saw us move into a position to be able to bring him to our club, and for him to make us his club of choice.

“We’re very excited that this opportunity has come to fruition and our members should be equally as enthusiastic about having a player of Latrell’s ability joining our ranks.”
