Melbourne will have to do without their star fullback Billy Slater for the next six to eight months as he recovers from a serious shoulder injury.

Slater had a shoulder reconstruction in the off-season and has now undergone further surgery on his left shoulder.

The veteran played in the Storm’s round one victory over the Dragons.

Melbourne is hopeful that Slater will return before the end of the season. It is believed the 32-year old, who turns 33 in June, has no plans to retire.
