Australia coach Tim Sheens has named his 19-man squad for Saturday’s World Cup final, and it includes Billy Slater.

The Kangaroos take on New Zealand at Old Trafford, and Slater is being given every chance to be fit for the match.

He was injured in the quarter-final victory over USA almost a fortnight ago, but has resumed training with the squad.

A final decision on the Melbourne Storm star’s fitness will be made on the day of the game.

Australia 19-man squad v New Zealand: Cameron Smith (C), Greg Bird, Darius Boyd, Daly Cherry-Evans, Cooper Cronk, Andrew Fifita, Jarryd Hayne, Paul Gallen, Greg Inglis, Brett Morris, Nate Myles, Josh Papalii, Corey Parker, Matthew Scott, Billy Slater, James Tamou, Brent Tate, Sam Thaiday and Johnathan Thurston.
