Castleford Tigers have underlined their ambitions for the future with the signing of England International centre Michael Shenton on a four-year contract, starting next season.

In signing for Castleford, Shenton, 25, will return to his hometown club with which he developed into a Super League player and gained England honours.

Having made 153 appearances for the Tigers after making his first team debut in 2004, the former Smawthorne Panthers junior joined St Helens following the 2010 season and scored a try for Saints in the Stobart Super League Grand Final.

Tigers head coach Ian Millward is delighted having fought off stiff competition from a number of rival Stobart Super League clubs to secure his signature:

“Michael is a quality centre who is very much a current International and has experience of playing in a Grand Final. It is brilliant news for the club both on and off the field. For him to make the decision to come back to Cas over quite a few other clubs is a big vote of confidence for us going forward,” Millward said.

“Not only are we getting a quality player, he comes with a mentoring role and he brings that experience that we’re looking for. I’m very much looking forward to working with Michael in the coming years.”

Shenton is the Tigers first confirmed new signing for next season with the club expecting to announce further recruits in the coming weeks.
