Sea Eagles can repeat success: Cherry-Evans

Daly Cherry-Evans is “quietly confident” Manly can repeat last year’s premiership glory if the Sea Eagles squad can remain injury free.

The Brookvale side are still without injured brothers Brett and Glen Stewart for Saturday’s match up with strugglers Newcastle.

But halfback Cherry-Evans, 23, is confident the fifth-placed Sea Eagles are ready for a strong finish.

“There is a quiet confidence amongst the boys that, barring injury and suspension, that our squad is strong enough to possibly claim back-to-back titles this year,” Cherry-Evans told Manly’s official website.

“It’s something that has stood there for a long time and no-one’s gone close to it so what better time than now to try and change some of those records.”

Cherry-Evans was a revelation last season and was named Dally M Rookie of the Year but has been largely unable to repeat his premiership form.

“I’ve had a pretty quiet year but I’m always working on my game and hopefully I can play some better footy in the back half of the year,” he said.

“I guess that’s just part and parcel of second year; people are going to be more alert to you and, being a halfback, you’re going to get treatment every weekend.

“If I’m not used to it now I never will be.”
