Salford Red Devils star Deon Cross is hoping to secure his future in the coming months, with the centre out of contract at the end of the season.

The 26-year-old got has impressed for the Red Devils since getting his chance to become a full-time professional with the Super League club ahead of the 2022 season.

Cross, a winger or centre, has scored 18 tries in 50 games for Salford since arriving from part-time Championship side Widnes.

“I am off-contract at the end of the year so this is my last year of my contract,” Cross told Love Rugby League.

“Hopefully (we can) try to finalise some stuff over the next coming months but we’ll see what happens.”

Cross has become somewhat of a fan favourite since his move to the Salford Stadium two years ago, earning international honours with England Knights in the process.

Asked if he’d like to stay with the Red Devils if offered the chance to, Cross replied: “If something came up it would be something I’d definitely be thinking about, 100 per cent.

“Hopefully I can get something wrapped up over the coming months, whether it’s at Salford we don’t know (yet), we’ll just have to see.

“That’s down to the coaches and Ian Blease (director of rugby and operations) – I’ve just got to keep making sure I put my best foot forward in my performances and just make sure I keep being consistent and playing well and the rest of it, like the England Knights and the contract will come on the back of that hopefully.”

Cross began his semi-professional career with Rochdale Hornets in 2018 before going on to enjoy impressive spells with Barrow Raiders and Widnes Vikings in the Championship.

After scoring 24 tries in 31 games for Widnes, Cross achieved his lifelong dream of becoming a professional rugby league player when Salford offered him a full-time contract at the age of 25.

The St Helens-born outside-back has since made 50 appearances for Paul Rowley’s side, and made his England Knights debut in a win over Scotland last autumn.
