Update on Ash Handley injury

Leeds are set to be without Ash Handley for up to six weeks due to injury. (Yorkshire Evening Post)

Ash Handley suffered a lateral ankle ligament injury in the win over Wakefield last Friday at Headingley Stadium.

“It’s a four-to-six-week type injury,” Smith told Yorkshire Evening Post.

“Ash has been playing well and been a real quality leader and a real part of how we endeavoured to play our footy at the back end of last year.”

Joe Shorrocks to remain at Leigh

Shorrocks, 23, joined the Leopards at the end of February and has featured in two games since – the wins over both Hull KR and St Helens.

“I think he’s in the right place,” Peet told Wigan Today.

“We’ll try to do a bit more of that when we get people out for two or three weeks to sample Super League.”

York appoint new captain

York Valkyrie have confirmed that hooker Sinead Peach has been promoted to being the club captain ahead of the 2023 Women’s Super League season.

The 24-year-old joined York from Castleford in 2021 and was named as the co-captain alongside the long-serving Katie Langan ahead of last season.

But following Langan’s retirement last month, Peach now becomes the new Valkyrie captain.

Peach said: “It’s a massive honour. I really enjoyed being co-captain of the squad last season and being able to lift the League Leaders’ Shield, so to be appointed as captain is an honour.”

Italy skipper joins Roosters

Sydney Roosters have signed Italy captain Nathan Brown for the remainder of the 2023 NRL season.

The 30-year-old joins the Roosters with immediate effect from fellow NRL outfit Parramatta Eels.

Brown has made 138 appearances in the NRL since his debut in 2013. He played for New South Wales in State of Origin in 2020 and has represented Italy in the last two World Cups.

New deal for NRL head coach

Parramatta Eels coach Brad Arthur has signed a new deal with the NRL club until at least the end of 2025.

Arthur said: “We are heading in the right direction, and while we’re proud of making it to the Grand Final last year, everyone at the club is determined to take it one step further this season and deliver the results that our members and fans deserve.

“I love being at this club and the relationships I have with our staff and our playing group.

“The best is yet to come from this team, so I’m excited to confirm my future at the club.”

He is likely to miss this weekend’s trip to Catalans Dragons, but coach Willie Peters has confirmed Parcell won’t be out for long.
