The RFL has been officially shortlisted for the Sports Industry Groups Sport Governing Body of the Year Award, sponsored by the Daily Telegraph, for the Sport Industry Awards 2012.

The partnership between the Sport Industry Awards and the Daily Telegraph aims to highlight standout performances from the UK’s leading governing bodies across four key pillars of governance – Performance, Leadership, Community and Ethics – in one of the most exciting years in the history of British sport.

The RFL, along with the five other shortlisted sport governing bodies, will be profiled in the Daily Telegraph on a weekly basis over the next six weeks, before the winning organisation is announced at the star-studded Sport Industry Awards ceremony on Wednesday 2nd May.

Nick Keller, the Chairman of the Sport Industry Group, commented: “The six governing bodies who have been shortlisted for the Award can confidently state that they are the best of a strong group of bodies in this country whose performance, achievements and strategic planning bode well for the future of British sport in this summer’s Olympic Games and beyond.

“The decision to partner with the Daily Telegraph was taken with the aim of elevating this already prestigious award to a whole new level, and the quality of entries received is proof of how successfully that goal has been achieved.

“A number of governing bodies the world over have had their ethics and leadership questioned in recent years, but every organisation that entered this year’s Sport Governing Body of the Year Award can point proudly to fantastic efforts at transparency and leadership.”

Richard Lewis, Chairman of the RFL, added: “It is an outstanding achievement to be shortlisted for this prestigious award. Rugby League has made great strides in the past 12 months, especially with our exceptional governance work that is admired across British sport. Our journey will continue throughout 2012 as we aim to deliver the most successful Rugby League World Cup of all time, when the tournament commences in the autumn of 2013 in England and Wales.”

The six organisations shortlisted for the Sport Governing Body of the Year Award, sponsored by the Daily Telegraph are:

    Rugby Football League

    British Cycling

    British Triathlon

    ECB

    England Netball

    UKA

The six governing bodies join the other brands, campaigns and organisations that have been shortlisted after a rigorous steering process involving more than 40 key figures from across the industry and 50 hours of intensive judging. Fully overseen by Deloitte, the Official Independent Scrutineer of the Sport Industry Awards, to ensure absolute transparency and impartiality, the list of nominees represents the best the industry had to offer in 2011.

With more than 160 campaigns, brands, teams and events considered by this year’s steering committees, reaching the shortlist in 2012 represents a stellar achievement. The results will be announced at the Sport Industry Awards ceremony on Wednesday 2nd May 2012.
