RFL ‘rest’ referee Cobb

Joe Cobb has not been named by the RFL as the referee for any of this weekend’s league or Challenge Cup fixtures.

Cobb has been the focus of controversy in recent weeks, with Huddersfield coach Paul Anderson and Widnes coach Denis Betts criticising him in public after games.

Anderson was unhappy with Wigan captain John Bateman’s approach to Cobb at half-time in their game.

Betts slammed Cobb’s performance following Friday’s match.

Sky Sports pundit Brian Carney has responded to Betts’s comments by insisting that the Widnes coach was trying to dfelct blame from his team’s recent poor performances.
