Record crowd expected at Magic Weekend

The record books are set to be rewritten at the Magic Weekend, with the RFL reporting excellent ticket sales.

For the first time, the upper tier in the East Stand at the Etihad Stadium has been opened to meet demand, and the weekend is likely to break the event record.

Four games – London v Catalan, Widnes v Salford, Hull v Hull KR and Wigan v Leeds – take place on Saturday, followed by three more on Sunday – Castleford v Wakefield, Bradford v Huddersfield, St Helens v Warrington.

Super League Marketing Director Mark Foster said: “Magic Weekend has already established itself as one of the highlights of the sporting calendar but this year looks like being extra special.

“Following on from the hugely successful World Cup, it’s clear that Rugby League’s big occasions are now becoming ‘must-see’ events, both for dedicated fans and the wider public alike.

“We have already sold more tickets for Saturday than on any single day since Magic began in 2007 and are still doing brisk business at the ticket office for both days.

“There are seven terrific matches across the whole weekend and an impressive schedule of other activities to keep the whole family entertained, both inside and outside the stadium, on both days.

“There are currently tickets available for both days and the advice to anyone who hasn’t yet purchased theirs is to not delay to ensure they are there to experience a truly magical weekend.”
