Powell niggled as Cas get out of jail

Daryl Powell says Castleford didn’t reach their usual high standards after securing a last-gasp 25-24 victory at Wakefield on Thursday.

Cas were 16-0 down at the break, but fought back in the second half to eventually secure the points courtesy of Luke Gale’s late drop goal.

“We needed to show we are the team we think we are – that’s not taking anything away from Wakefield who dominated us and were too quick for us,” he told the Pontefract and Castleford Express.

“But the main thing was it was our attitude not quite being where it normally is. It was a great second half effort, though, to reel it back in – it really was.

“We’ve won nine games straight, so it’s human nature that now and again you dip a little bit. I don’t think it’s underestimation – just natural – and we needed to rectify that.

“We still had to win it twice in that second period, too. The second half was a great example of how to win when under pressure. Everything was better.”
